Smart Docklands shortlisted for Innovative Idea Award at World Smart City Awards 2018

We are delighted to announce that the Smart Docklands Programme was shortlisted as a finalist for the World Smart City Innovative Idea Award, as part of the 2018 Smart City Expo World Congress.

One of the most important smart city events globally, the annual World Congress sees cities, states, vendors, researchers and innovators descend on the beautiful city of Barcelona for three days of ‘all-things-smart-cities’. The 2018 programme included a wide range of demos, talks and networking events, including discussions on 5G Tech, IoT, and Future Mobility – key themes and valuable learning for our own programme here at Smart Docklands.

The annual awards ceremony highlights some of the most interesting developments in the smart city movement across the world.
The Smart Docklands programme was recognised for the innovative methodology we employ; identifying key programme challenges through community engagement with our stakeholders and bringing together the Triple Helix of Academia, The City and Industry to collaborate and co-create solutions to regional problems.

We were honoured to share the stage with our fellow finalists, including projects from India, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and the USA – more here. The deserving winner, (Delft)LINK from Cape Town, is South Africa’s first community funded affordable housing initiative. A not for profit company, the project uses a smart phone application to link prospective local developers, investors and tenants in a bid to tackle the city’s housing shortage for low-income earners.

2018 marks the second year in a row that Dublin was represented among the award’s finalists; another proud moment as Dublin emerges as a world-leading smart city.
