NOW dublinbikes

Key Facts

NOW dublinbikes is one of the world’s most successful bike rental schemes in the world, with over 70,000 subscribers undertaking more than 33m journeys from 115 stations located all around the city.

Project summary

The scheme, which is a partnership between Dublin City Council and JCDecaux, currently has 1,600 bikes available at 101 stations around the city.

The enormous success of the dublinbikes, when compared with other cities, can be attributed to three factors: the fact that there are over 115 stations across the greater city centre area, a low annual fee of just €35, and the ongoing maintenance of bikes, stations, and associated equipment.

Benefits of the scheme

  • Because the stations are located across all areas of the city, the scheme makes the entire city easily accessible to those who live in the city, as well as to visitors who can avail of a 1-day or 3-day visitor pass to experience the sights of the city out in the fresh air.
  • The scheme encourages a move away from cars in the city centre: not only is this good from a congestion and environmental perspective, but it also promotes healthy living, exercise, and physical, as well as mental, well-being.
  • The scheme is helping to change public behaviour regarding how we use the city, and go about our daily lives: this shifting of mindsets will result in increasing number of people seeing cycling as the best and most suitable mode of transport.
  • By offering the public one contactless payment card for dublinbikes, Luas, Dart and Dublin Bus, travelling across Dublin City and its environs, is a simple, efficient, and extremely cost-effective experience.

You can now hire a dublinbike by purchasing either a 1-day ticket, 3-day ticket or taking out an Annual subscription.
