Call for Pilots 2024 Project
Category: Environmental Monitoring 🌳
Dublin is one of Europe’s most congested cities. While the City Centre Transport Plan targets a 40% reduction in car traffic, measuring real progress requires accurate, localised data. Count Docklands is a citizen science initiative using small, camera-based sensors to track real-time movement patterns – counting pedestrians, cyclists, cars, and trucks across 20 locations in the Docklands.
We’re currently inviting residents, schools, and businesses to get involved by hosting a sensor in their window. Each device turns a simple street view into valuable traffic data that helps inform smarter urban planning. All that’s needed is a first-floor window with a clear view and a nearby socket. By taking part, volunteers contribute directly to shaping a more efficient, people-centred transport system for the city. You can sign up here.
The data collected will help evaluate the impact of policy changes, support sustainable mobility strategies, and reveal how people move through the Docklands in real time. This open, ground-up approach to monitoring invites the public to become active participants in building a more liveable Dublin.
Deliverables: 20 traffic sensors, live multimodal mobility data, community-hosted infrastructure, and actionable insights for transport planning.
