The River Liffey supports a wide range of users: boaters, walkers, emergency responders, planners, but until now, there was no shared, real-time understanding of how it behaves. The River Liffey Water Sensors pilot deployed 14 water sensors along the river (Heuston to East Link) and provided public access to live data via a cloud-based platform.

We hosted a collaborative workshop with UTS Technologies, bringing together representatives from sports groups, community organisations, academia, and Dublin City Council to explore the future of water data. The session offered an opportunity to preview the new data dashboard, share feedback, and take part in a broader discussion on how environmental data can support the river’s future.

By making river level and flow data accessible and relevant, the project empowers decision-making across multiple user groups – whether that means launching a kayak, clearing debris, or responding to upstream conditions.
Deliverables: Sensor installation, real-time app, and a functional tool for better river decision-making.
