Smart Docklands Networking Event – November 18th

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us at the Smart Docklands Networking Event!

It was fantastic to gather in Portal at Trinity East Tuesday evening. Both Smart Docklands and Portal share the mission of bringing academia, local government, industry and community together to create a better future.

We also appreciate the interest and conversations around our Call for Pilots 2025. We’re excited to see what new ideas and collaborations emerge in the months ahead!

Thank you again for your energy, insights, and support. Here’s to the progress ahead!

Smart City Expo in Barcelona

In the first week of November, Mariana Chihenseck Blanco and Clara Butz joined the Smart Dublin team to present Smart Docklands at the Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona. During interesting talks, our colleagues got insights into topics like the future of active travel, urban sensing or how to make smart cities more sustainable. At the stand Mariana and Clara connected with people and companies from all over the world to plan future collaboration. The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Ray McAdam, visited as well and was excited to  experience our Smart Docklands digital twin in VR.

FYUZ 2025

FYUZ, the flagship Telecom Infra Project (TIP) conference, took place in the Dublin Convention Centre at the beginning of November. The annual event brings players from the telco industry to discuss and promote the future of open and disaggregated networks. Smart Docklands organised two panel sessions at FYUZ to shine a spotlight on the Irish telecoms ecosystem in front of an international audience.

During FYUZ our Telecoms Research and Innovation Lead at Smart Docklands, Colm Browning, moderated two panels, first focussed on the evolving role of tower and asset providers in the roll-out of future telecoms networks in Ireland and the second highlighted emerging private 5G deployments and use cases in Ireland. The panel highlighted lessons learned from their respective international experiences and were in strong agreement on the need for speedy spectrum regulation to help accelerate mobile private network roll-out in Ireland.
